There isn't an high speed line between Hamburg and Hannover but the 'classic railway' was largely constructed across flat farmland, so the trains are able to travel at up to 200 km/h.
Most of these trains commence their journeys at Hamburg-Altona station and they all call at Hamburg-Dammtor before they call at Hamburg Hbf.
So it can be a good idea to look up the starting point of your journey and then book tickets from the most convenient station; only Hamburg Hbf has connections with the U-Bahn (subway).

Finding your ticket(s):
On the DB Bahn booking site look for journeys that have 0 in the Chg. column
Use the earlier/later buttons to search for the cheapest ticket prices.
Trains departing at different times can be cheaper than others leaving on the same day, so you may need to look through the day's departures to find the cheapest fares.
Tickets for the ICE trains are comparatively expensive for this journey, it's one of the shortest journeys to which DB applies its 'from €17.90' pricing policy.
Reservations will automatically be included if you book 1st class tickets.
Ticket Provider | Approximate Cost | |
---|---|---|
DB Bahn | from €17.90 | |
Omio | from €17.90 | |
Trainline | from €19.90 |
The ICE trains are 10-15 mins faster than the IC trains, but the slower IC trains aren't always cheaper.
It is demand per departure, rather than the journey time or type of train, which has the biggest influence on ticket prices.
