Most of these trains commence their journeys at Hamburg-Altona station and they all call at Hamburg-Dammtor before they arrive at Hamburg Hbf.
So it can be a good idea to look up the starting point of your journey and then book tickets from the most convenient station; only Hamburg Hbf has connections with the U-Bahn (subway).

Despite the fact that ICE trains are now used on this route, you won't be travelling on a high speed line during this journey.
These trains will reverse direction on departure from Frankfurt Main Hbf.
The alternative route:
There are other direct IC trains between Hamburg and Heidelberg, which have a journey time of around 1hr 10mins longer.
Those slower IC trains travel via Koln and Mainz, but if you want to take the most scenic route between Hamburg and Heidelberg then target those trains.
They travel through the stunning Upper Rhine Gorge.
