The railway taken by the trains on the Paris - Torino - Milano route has been closed until at least summer 2024, due to damage caused by a landslide.
Replacement bus services have not been made available for international journeys along the closed section of the route.
The alternative route, which is currently the only option, involves travelling via Switzerland and Milano, with at least two connections and a journey time more than three hours longer than the norm!
So the info below is currently not relevant!
How you travel from Paris to Firenze / Florence by train depends on whether you set off from the French capital in the morning, or depart in the early afternoon.
Depart from Paris before 07:00 and one one of the two options available for the end-to-end journey involves taking the Italian Frecce train, which has been newly introduced to this route to Italy from Paris; and making a connection on to another Frecce train on to Roma in Milano Centrale station.
The early morning alternative route involves taking TGV train to Torino Porta Susa station and connecting there into a Frecce train on to Firenze / Florence, and this option is also available when setting off from Paris in the early afternoon.
Travelling overnight is no longer an option due to the termination of the sleeper train services between Paris and Milano.
When travelling between most cities by train there is only one logical option, though on other journeys there is a choice between different trains or alternative routes. If different options are available you can use the info to decide which is best for you.
