Change trains in: Bruxelles/Brussels

The high speed train service between Koln/Cologne and Bruxelles/Brussels is split between ICE trains and Thalys trains.

This journey option is the combination of  Thalys + Eurostar trains.

Outside of the summer months, usually the only option for departing Koln/Cologne in THE AFTERNOON is to take this Thalys + Eurostar journey

The journey times of 5hr 20 mins allow more than 1hr 10 mins* to make the connection at Bruxelles-Midi/Zuid station between the arrival of the Thalys train and the departure of the Eurostar

So this will allow sufficient time to check-in for the Eurostar even if the Thallys train arrives in Bruxelles/Brussels more than 45 mins late.

(*Hence the journey time being longer than when travelling from the UK - in the opposite direction the connecting time between trains at Bruxelles-Midi station is shorter).

Although some of these Thalys + Eurostar combinations have journey times of more than 6 hours - and if you take those trains you are scheduled to be at Bruxelles-Midi for more than two hours.

This guide has more information re: making the connection into the Eurostar train at Bruxellles-Midi station.
