Book early and save: Yes
Online bookings open: 6 months ahead of the travel date
Check that you’re looking at booking info for the direct trains.
On the DB Bahn booking site look for journeys that have:
- 0 in the Chg. column
- IC in the Products column.
Use the earlier/later buttons to search for the cheapest fares.
Trains departing at different times can be cheaper than others leaving on the same day, so you may need to look through the day's departures to find the cheapest tickets.
Reservations:
Seat reservations are included when booking 1st class tickets.
However, if you book 2nd class tickets, or will be travelling with a 1st or 2nd class rail pass, reservations are optional.
Reservations are highly recommened for this journey - particularly if:
- you won't be taken the first or last trains of the day
- you will be travelling on a Friday or Sunday year round
- you will be travelling between the beginning of July and the end of September.
These can be very busy trains, so you'll be quite fortunate to find a spare seat available for the entire journey.

Final Destination: Berlin-Ost
All trains also call at: Amersfoort
The first train of the day does not operate on Sundays and the last train of the day only departs on Sundays.
This is a very straightforward, but unexciting, train ride across the plains of northern Europe.
So this a journey when it's a particularly good idea to have something to read or watch to fill in the time.
