Changing trains in: Bruxelles/Brussels
and Koln/Cologne (and in Hannover on some connections)

The connection between trains at Bruxelles-Midi/Zuid station:

The journey times under 9hr 25mins are all dependent on making an 18-20 min connection at Bruxelles Midi/Zuid station - between the arrival of a Eurostar from London and the departure of an ICE* train on to Koln/Cologne.

However, the connection is NOT absolutely guaranteed – the ICE train on to Koln/Cologne won't wait more than 5 - 10mins if the Eurostar is running late

You won’t have to buy new tickets/reservations, in the event of a Eurostar arriving too late in Brussels/Bruxelles to make the connection – but if you’d rather avoid having to change trains against the clock, alternative options are available.

More details are in the 'Ticket Information' below.

The connection between trains at Koln Hbf station:

The connecting time at Koln Hbf station between the arrival of the ICE from Bruxelles and the departure of an IC or EC train on to Hamburg is always between 45 and 50mins.

You can usually shave 15 – 20 mins off the journey time by taking an ICE train on to Hannover from Koln/Cologne and making an additional connection between ICE trains in Hannover.

DB Bahn will sell these journeys – look for the options with ‘3 changes’, but be aware that some of those additional connections in Hannover are tightly timed.

Rail Pass users:

Rail pass users need to make reservations on the Eurostar - and more information about how to do this online is available if you click the Eurostar train buttons above.

Choose connections which involve taking an ICE train between Brussels/Bruxelles and Koln/Cologne, you won’t HAVE to reserve on the ICE train.

So this is a much cheaper option than taking the Thalys train – on which rail pass users have to pay comparatively expensive rail pass reservation fees.
