Heading off to the German Alps by train from München/Munich is easily done thanks to direct trains to the popular resort town, where an easy transfer is also available to Germany's highest railway, the Zugspitzbahn.
Final Destination: Mittenwald or Innsbruck
On Saturdays there are additional ICE trains between Munchen and Garmisch.

Book early and save: Yes*
Online bookings open: 6 months ahead of the travel date
*This does not normally apply to journeys by Regio train, but this route is an exception.
However, if you book online you won't be saving on the standard journey ticket, the saving will come from the opportunity to book a 'Regio-Ticket Werdenfels' day pass for this journey.
If you will be travelling in a group, additional adults will travel at a discounted rate, and you can travel on to other destinations at no additional charge.

If you have booked a ticket online, then aim to be at Munchen Hbf no later than around 10 mins before the departure of the train.
The trains to Garmisch usually depart from Gleis (track/platforms) 27-36 in Munchen Hbf and these are some distance from the main concourse.
If you will be purchasing tickets at Munchen Hbf then be at the station a minimum of 20 mins before departure.
The station for the Zugspitzbahn mountain railway is adjacent to DB's main station in Garmisch and the trains give easy access to the ski resort - as well as there being great views from Germany's highest railway.
There is a lack of images for this journey because when SMTJ last came this way it was pouring with rain, but this is pretty, rather than jaw-dropping trop, with distant views of mountain peaks, particularly as the train nears Garmisch.
