The £millions invested on this route have transformed this journey, with brand new trains providing the fastest ever service, with hundreds of additional seats available in every hour.
All trains also call at: Colchester; Manningtree (connect for Harwich Town); Ipswich (connect for Felixstowe, Saxmundham, Beccles and Lowestoft) and Diss
On Monday to Saturday the trains which leave London at 00 or 02 past the hour are 10 mins faster, because the trains which typically depart at 30mins passed the hour make additional calls at Stratford, Chelmsford and Stowmarket.
On Sundays all of the trains also call at these three stations.
Monday to Saturday = 2 x trains per hour
Sunday = 1 x train per hour
Book early and save: Yes
The cheaper 'Advance' tickets can be typically booked up to 12 weeks ahead and they can only be used on the specific departure you select when making a booking; then if you don't take that train, because of a last-minute change or travel plans, or don't get to the station on time, they can't be refunded.
Though they can be exchanged free of charge to an alternative departure if you do so up until 18:00 on the day before your booked departure.
Greater Anglia also allows Advance tickets to be booked up until 10 mins prior to departure.
The big plus of booking an 'Advance' ticket is the price, it's the Advance tickets which are available from £10.
