Final Destination: Venezia S. Lucia
If you want to make a day trip from Verona to Padova/Padua by train, then target these trains and ignore the express Frecce trains, which take the same route.
If you want to be spontaneous and book last minute at the station, then the Frecce trains are a very pricey option, for such a comparatively short journey.
And the Frecce trains are also only around 15 mins quicker than the fastest RV trains.
Though if you really want to take the alternative Frecce trains, you'll save if you book ahead on Trenitalia.
up to 2 x trains per hour
Book early and save: No (not on these trains)
Tickets will cost the same price if purchased at the station immediately before departure.
These Regionale (R/RV) trains are always cheaper than the slightly faster Frecce trains, you can save a minimum of €7,
They'll be more than €15 cheaper, if you'll be booking last minute at the station just before your journey.
Hence our suggestion to ignore the Frecce trains when booking train tickets for a journey between Verona and Padua/Padova.

The Regionale Veloce (RV) trains are around 30 mins faster than the Regionale (R) trains, but tickets cost the same price; so target the RV trains
The RV trains usually depart in each hour, but on Mondays to Fridays there is a gap between 11:22 and 13:22 and on weekends there is a gap between 10:22 and 12:22.
