Thanks to the length of the journey from the knee to the heel of Italy, there is a choice between travelling by day; and making the most of the coastal scenery, or travelling on a overnight train.
A high speed Frecciarossa train is now used on the Turin to Lecce journey, in place of what had been a Frecciabianca train.
This Frecciarossa train takes a different 'high speed' route between Turin and Bologna, via Torino Porta Susa station, so that station now has a new direct connection with Bari.
This train is usually scheduled to depart daily from Torino Porta Nuova station at 09:10 and Torino Porta Susa at 09:20.
Final Destinaton: Lecce

Rail Pass Users:
If you will be travelling with a valid Eurail or InterRail pass, there is no viable alternative to paying the €10 rail pass reservation fee, to travel from Turin to Lecce by this Frecce train.
You will need to reserve prior to boarding these trains, either at the station (using a Trenitalia ticket machine or ticket desk) OR by booking them online.
How to book the rail pass reservations online is included on our guide to using rail passes in Italy.

This Frecciarossa train uses the high speed lines between Torino and Bologna.
Once the train has travelled around 20 mins south of Rimini, if your seat is on the left* you'll be able to experience one of the best coastal train journeys in all of Europe - and the intermittent coastal views continue as far south as Pescara.
For much of this part of the trip, the beach is all that separates The Adriatic from the train; a highlight of the trip is just to the north of Ancona.
*If your seat isn't on the left, temporarily move over to one which is.
Final destination: Lecce
