These trains to Uppsala normally depart from platforms/spars 3-8 at Stockholm C station.
There are also SJ Local trains between these cities which around 20mins slower than the Regional and InterCity trains.

If you will be booking tickets at the station (only available from ticket machines) it won't matter what train you take, tickets will cost the same price, so just book and then hop on the next train to leave.
Due to the comparatively short distance, you won't make a big saving if you book ahead online.

The train service between Stockholm and Uppsala is split between
(1) SJ IC trains can be the cheapest of all if you're booking more than a few weeks ahead, though the cheapest tickets for those trains will be departure specific and can't be refunded if you subsequently change your travel plans.
(2) SJ Regional trains - which provide the most frequent service
(3) other SJ Local trains - which around 20mins slower than the Regional and InterCity trains, but will be more expensive if you're booking ahead, as tickets are not discounted for those trains.
The SJ website won't indicate if a train is an InterCity, Regional or Local until you select a journey; so choose the journey at a departure time and price that suits - and don't be concerned as to which train you will be taking for such a comparatively short journey.
