When looking up this journey on the ticket booking websites there will be dozens of journey options available
All but four of which involve taking a Frecce high speed train from Rome to Bologna and then connecting into a Bologna to Rimini train.
The journeys with the shortest connections win Bologna, are quicker than taking the daily direct Frecce train operated by Trenitalia and much faster than the IC trains.
However, Italo has recently introduced a direct train which takes the route via Bologna, where it reverses direction.
It also provides a direct option for travelling from Rome to Rimini in the mornings.
Final Destination: Ravenna
This trains also calls at: Falconara Maritimma
This train does not call at Roma Tiburtina.
This would be a highly scenic journey if the train was scheduled to depart from Roma earlier in the day.

**Online bookings open:**up to 6 months ahead of the travel date
If you want to take a direct train from Rome to Rimini after midday you will need to take this Frecciabianca train which is usually scheduled to depart from Roma Termini station at 17:25.
So look for trains departing between 17:00 and 18:00 when searching for tickets on the booking websites.
Booking tickets for the indirect trains:
When looking up a Rome to Rimini journey, you will see numerous journeys listed with 1 change of train
These all involve taking a high speed Frecce train from Roma to Bologna - and then at Bologna Centrale station, you can connect into a Frecce, Intercity or Regionale train on to Rimini.
Take care to check the details of the connection carefully if you do opt to travel via Bologna; Bologna Centrale is an enormous station, so you should allow a minimum of 10 mins to change trains there, particularly if you want or need to use the elevators.
So for a stress-free connection, we recommend allowing a minimum of 25 mins to change trains in Bologna, 10 mins to make the transfer + 15 mins contingency, in case the train from Rome arrives late.
Though most of the connections will involve taking a Regionale train on from Bologna to Riminiand because seats can't be reserved on these trains, it won't matter which of this type of train service you take on to Rimini.
Though when booking journey options which involve taking a combination of Frecce + Regionale trains, you won't then be able to take an Intercity or Frecce train on from Bologna.
