SuperCity travel guide:

There are no high speed lines in Czechia/The Czech Republic so when the Czech national rail operator, České dráhy, wanted to introduce faster services around 15 years ago, it purchased these tilting trains from the 'Pendolino' family.

Hence these trains being similar to the tilting express trains which also operate in Finland, Italy, Portugal and Slovenia.

We last travelled on these trains some time ago, hence the relative lack of images, but when we did the tilting mechanism was particularly noticeable - so if you have motion sensitivity, taking preventative medication is recommended.
Images of the train interior and additional information are available on the official page on the CD website.

Routes:

(1) In Czechia/The Czech Republic these Super City trains provide the fastest services in either direction on the Praha - Olomouc - Ostrava route,

(2) One train per day on Saturday - Thursday and 2 x trains per day on Friday, operate in each direction on a Praha - Olomouc - Ostrava - Bohumin - Zilina - Kosice route (the only international route taken by SuperCity services).

(3) 2 x trains per day operate in both directions on a Frantiskovy Lazne - Cheb ↔ Plzen - *Praha - Olomouc - Ostrava - Bohumin - Zilina - Kosice route,
*Between Praha and Frantiskovy Lazne these trains as classified as IC servcies - listed as IC Pendolino on the English language version of the CD website.
So when travelling in either direction between Praha and Frantiskovy Lazne, the seat reservations are optional and not mandatory.

Reservations:

When these trains are branded SuperCity, they are the only Czech train services on which seat reservation is mandatory.

The reservations aren't complimentary, when you book tickets on the České dráhy, CD, website, the price of the reservation is clearly shown - it can vary between 35 CZK and 100 CZK, according to distance and demand for a particular departure.

Because they are mandatory, you cannot remove these reservations when making a booking, hence these SuperCity services being more expensive than other trains, on the Praha - Olomouc - Ostrava route.

Rail pass users can book the reservations they require to travel by these trains on the CD website - we explain how here; the price is 100 CZK = approx €4.

On board:

The train conveys seats in 'Quiet Zones' and a family compartment.

So it's worth using the seating plan on the CD website to select these specific seats, though you may need to resort to Google Translate to make sense of the seating plan - the CD website has been translated into English and German, but the seating plan is an exception.

Travel in 1st class/1. trida and you will receive a complimentary snack/sandwich, in 2nd class/2. trida you will receive complimentary bottle of water .

You can also access an on-board entertainment, though most of its features will be in Czech, but worth knowing is that you can use this console to order additional non-complimentary, refreshment items and have them delivered to your seat.

Bicycles:

Non-folding bikes can be taken on SuperCity services, but bike space reservations must be purchased prior to boarding.
