Travel Information

The Czech national operator České dráhy, offers both Ex and IC trains on this route between Prague/Praha and Marianske Lazne.

The IC trains are usually scheduled to depart from Praha hl.n station at 10:45 and 18:45 and they're at least 10 mins faster than the more frequent Ex trains.

Though if the timings of the IC trains don't suit then those Ex trains become the logical choice for making this journey.

The Ex trains have complimentary wi-fi, power sockets and a trolley catering service.

Final Destination: Cheb/Munchen - the Ex trains; Frantiskovy Lazne or Cheb - the IC trains

*All trains also call at: Plzeň

Tickets

Book early and save: Yes

Online bookings open: around two months ahead

This is a route on which the national rail operator CD, České dráhy, offers limited numbers of  ‘Special Offer’ tickets, also known as ‘Akcni jizdenka’ tickets.

Though you'll generally save only the equivalent of around €3 by booking these tickets - not because they don't offer a good deal, but because train tickets are comparatively inexpensive in Czechia/The Czech Republic.

Our general guide to Czech train tickets is available here - and we have also published a guide to booking tickets on the CD website.

Seat Reservations:

Reservations are available on these EX and IC trains and if you add a reservation while making an online booking, they're complimentary - so it's definitely worth taking that step.

If you use the seating plan, you can select forward facing seats, window seats, or table seats etc.

CD is the national rail operator in Czechia and its very smart online booking service sells tickets for all express train services which it operates within Czechia, as well international journeys by EC, Railjet, SuperCity and overnight trains.
Some express trains, both within and to/from Czechia are operated by LeoExpress and Regiojet and these cannot be booked with CD.

CD also sells international tickets involving changes of train outside of Czechia for end-to-end journeys:

  • to Belgium
  • destinations in Germany not served by direct trains
  • to Paris
  • to Arhus, Copenhagen and Odense in Denmark
  • to destinations in Italy served by the overnight trains from Austria
  • to Luxembourg
  • to destinations in the The Netherlands, including Amsterdam, which are on the route of the direct trains from Berlin
  • to destinations in Romania, including Bucuresti served by the direct day and night trains from Budapest.

In addition to tickets, seat reservations, reservations for bicycles, plus reservations for couchettes and sleeping cabins, can also be booked online with CD, with no booking fees.

Good to Know

These trains also call at Praha-Smichov station after they have departed from Praha hl.n. station.

The quickest end-to-end journey from Prague city centre is take a Line B Metro to its Smíchovské nádraží station where transfers are available to Praha-Smichov.

Praha-Smichov station is a functional rather than a beautiful station, but the transfer from the metro isn't any more awkward than at Praha hl.n.

Though if you do opt to join the train at Praha-Smichov we recommend opting to add a complimentary reservation when booking tickets on the CD website.
The train will inevitably be busier when it arrives at Praha-Smichov, having already picked up passengers at Praha hl.n.
