The ICE and Thalys trains heading to Germany from Bruxelles/Brussels also call at Liege, but if you book a ticket online or at the station for a Bruxelles to Liege journey, it won't be valid on those trains.
You will have to take the IC trains, despite the fact that they're slower by more than 25 minutes.
Though a positive is that the smartest type of Belgian IC trains are used on this route.
If you see Luik on the electronic departure displays at Bruxelles-Midi station, the train will be calling at Liege.
Final Destination: Welkenraedt or Eupen
There are up to three other IC train services per hour between Bruxelles and Liege/Luik and they will stand out on the departure screens because their final destination is Liege/Luik.
However, it's worth targeting these specific IC trains which will be heading on beyond Liege to Welkenraedt or Eupen
They're the only Belgian IC trains to use the same high speed line between Leuven and Liege as the ICE and Thalys trains; and the most comfortable type of IC trains which use the I11 coaches are used on this route.
(However, these Belgian IC trains travel at slower speeds than the ICE and Thalys trains - so don't meet the 250km/h high speed train criteria).
Those other trains terminating in Liege/Luik don't use this line, so they will be at least 25 - 30mins slower, but tickets cost the same price, irrespective of which route the trains take between Bruxelles and Liege.
Departing from Bruxelles/Brussels
All trains also depart from: Bruxelles-Midi and Bruxelles-Nord
These trains cross the Belgian capital from south to north, so they depart from Bruxelles-Midi station, before calling at Bruxelles-Central station; and then at Bruxelles-Nord.
So work out which would be the optimum station to head to in order to board these trains.
The Bruxelles/Brussel public transport map is here.
Mon - Fri = 2 x trains per hour
Sa/Sun = 1 x train per hour
Book early and save: No
Tickets will cost the same price if purchased at the same station immediately before departure.
Tickets cannot be purchased for Bruxelles – Liege journeys by the ICE andThalys trains, which share this route with these IC trains
