Tickets

Book early and save: No

Tickets will cost the same price if purchased at the station immediately before departure.

When travelling between Amsterdam ↔ Roterdam on these Intercity Direct trains, a supplement of €1.40 - €2.40 is charged; the higher price applies at business hours.
This supplement will automatically be included in the cost of a ticket counter, if you specify that you want to travel on the InterCity Direct, or if you use a ticket machine they have an obvious 'button' to press when making a purchase
If you will be travelling with a Chipkart pass, you will need to tap on a post on the platform (spoor) prior to boarding.

Good to Know

SMTJ has perhaps risked controversy, by not classifying this journey as high speed.

These InterCity Direct trains use the high speed line between Amsterdam and Rotterdam, but they’re not high speed trains; as they don’t travel at 250 km/h or more.

The only high speed trains between Amsterdam and Rotterdam are the Thalys trains, but tickets are NOT available for Amsterdam to Rotterdam journeys by Thalys trains.

It’s still worth paying the small supplement to travel on the InterCity Direct trains for Amsterdam to Rotterdam journeys.
Click on InterCity Direct guide below for more info re: this supplement, including the details of exemptions

The high speed line is more direct than the route taken by other slower InterCity trains between the two cities; so these InterCity Direct* trains are more than 30 mins faster.
