On board a GW Train

GW Train Regio operates the trains which take multiple minor routes and branch lines in some of the more picturesque rural areas of Czechia.

The key things worth knowing about taking a journey by GW trains are:

  • Because the trains are not operated by the Czech national rail operator, CD, its rail passes along with Eurail and Interrail passes cannot be used on GW's trains.
  • Tickets for journeys which involve a combination of CD trains + GW trains can be purchased on the CD website.
  • Tickets for journeys solely by GW train can be purchased up to 15 days in advance on its online ticket booking service.
  • Tickets for journeys by GW Trains cannot be purchased at CD's ticket counters
  • Tickets can be purchased on the train, so if you have a ticket for the journey by a CD train, you can hop on board a connecting GW train if you don't have time to book the ticket at the transfer station.
  • A variety of different types of trains are used on the routes, but all of them are 2nd class only.
  • GW's most modern trains, pictured above and at the top of the page, are used on multiple routes including between Ceske Budejovice and Cesky Krumlow; and Karlovy Vary - Krasny Jez - Marianske Lazne; These trains have Wifi, air-conditioning, low-floor boarding and wheelchair spaces.
