Cross Country uses these trains on two routes:

  1. Cardiff - Newport - Gloucester - Cheltenham - Birmingham - Tamworth - Burton-on-Trent - Derby - Nottingham
  2. Birmingham - Nuneaton - Leicester - Melton Mowbray - Stamford - Peterborough - March - Ely - Cambridge - Stansted Airport

Hence journeys by these trains can take more than two hours, but they have features which are typical of other European regional trains:

  • The only have 2nd Class / Standard Class seating
  • Seats cannot be reserved
  • They don't have any catering facilities

Though they are gradually being refurbished / enhanced, which includes the fitting of 3-pin and USB A & C plug sockets at all seats.

Also in common with other 'regional' trains, they have comparatively limited luggage storage space.
Hence a recommendation from CrossCountry that travellers bring only one larger item of luggage with them, which has a maxim size of 90cm by 70cm by 30cm.
Pushchairs / strollers will need to be folded.

They also have only have storage space for one unfolded bicycle, which is in coach C. So it is very much a good idea to book this space in advance.
