Shrub Hill is regarded as the main station in the city of Worcester due to its size and grandeur, but Foregate Street is more convenient for the city center.

Most trains heading into Worcester from Birmingham and all trains from Bristol, Cheltenham and London call first at Worcester Shrub Hill before going on to Worcester Foregate Street.
The city's other station is located closer to the heart of Worcester, as it's at located to the north of the High Street, which leads to the cathedral.
The walk between Shrub Hill and the cathedral is five mins longer and is beside busy roads.

Though a key facility that is available at Shrub Hill and not at Foregate Street is a taxi rank, so leave the train at Shrub Hill if you want to take a taxi to your final destination.

When the usual timetable is available, the trains which call at Worcester Shrub Hill are taking these routes (not all station calls have been included

  • to Pershore - Evesham - Moreton in Marsh - Charlbury - Oxford - Reading - London Paddington; 1 x train per hour
  • to Stourbridge - Birmingham Snow Hill - Birmingham Moor Street* - Shirley - Stratford upon Avon; 1 x train per hour
  • to Birmingham New Street*; 1 x train every other hour
  • to Great Malvern (most trains continue to Ledbury - Hereford); 1 x train per hour
  • to Cheltenham - Gloucester - Bristol Parkway - Bristol Temple Meads); 1 x train every other hourl some of these trains start aand terminate at Shrub Hill. so don't call at Foregate Street
    *= there are more frequent trains from and to Birmingham at Foregate Street station.

Arriving and Departing

Platform 1, which is used by most trains, including all trains from London is beside the station's entrance hall, so access between it and the taxi rank is step-free.
Some of the trains to London also depart from platform 1.

Platforms 2 and 2A which most of the trains towards Bristol and some of the trains to London use can be accessed by a footbridge.
It is equipped with lifts, but unusually for a station in Britain, they are not in ordinary use so passengers have to be accompanied by station staff.
Hence if you will want to use these lifts, you will need to arrange this is advance.
Note that both platforms at Foregate Street station can typically be accessed by lifts that are in every day use by any traveller.

Worcestershire Parkway station

The trains to and from London also call at Worcestershire Parkway station before and after they call at Shrub Hill.
It's a station which lives up to its name, as it gives easy access with the M5 Motortway

It is also used by CrossCountry trains to and from a swathe of destinations not served by trains to and from either Shrub Hill or Foregate Street stations, including Cardiff, Edinburgh, Exeter, Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Nottingham, Plymouth, Sheffield and York.
Though the connecting times between these trains and the trains which serve Shrub Hill are typically 30 to 55 mins, so it can be more convenient to make a transfer at Birmingham New Street or Cheltenham Spa stations.

Alternatively bus route / line x 50 connects Worcestershire Parkway station with the city centre once or twice per hour.
