Manchester to Newcastle by train

When the usual TransPennine Express timetable is operating there will be two options available for taking a train from Manchester to Newcastle.
(1) The faster and more frequent services which use Manchester Victoria station
(2) A newer service of less frequent trains from Manchester Piccadilly station.
So if the starting point of your journey in the city is conveniently located for Piccadilly, or if you will be taking a connecting train to Manchester which arrives at Piccadilly station, then these services are the better option, despite their slower speed.
